TECHNIQUE VIDEO
RECOGNITION CUE
Look for a deep turn with an arm around the waist and the opponent loaded broadly across the attacker’s hips.
Starting position
Both judoka are standing close enough for the attacker to turn in without reaching or pulling the opponent onto a bent back.
Typical grip
One arm wraps securely around the waist or lower back while the other controls the sleeve.
Kuzushi · balance breaking
Bring the opponent forward so their heels become light and their upper body follows the attacker’s turn.
Tsukuri · entry and position
Turn until the hips are across the opponent’s front, bend through the legs with a tall back, and establish close waist control.
Kake · completion
Extend the legs and continue turning and pulling so the opponent travels over the broad hip platform.
Expected result
The opponent passes over the attacker’s hips and is guided forward to the mat with sleeve control maintained.
